Our Story

Evan L. Simon

I graduated from Lehigh University as a member of the class of 2019 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. As a student, I helped found of the LU MakerSpace. For me the fun is in not only conceptualizing and designing circuits and products, but then also taking those designs and fabricating an actual functional prototype or product.

Why the Lehigh Doorknob?

As a student, I spent many many hours in Packard Lab. I absolutely adored the custom brass doorknobs throughout the building. These doorknobs are one of the exceptionally unique things found only at Lehigh. Ever since my freshman year, I wanted to have one of the doorknobs. armed with my metal casting experience from high school, I decided I would make a replica for myself!

Where did soap idea come from?

Having originally set out to make a metal replica doorknob, the thought of hand soaps had never crossed my mind. In the process of making the metal replica I had to first make a wax copy. I brought this copy to show friends around campus. As I was doing so, one of them complimented me on the quality of my hand soaps! They thought the white wax doorknob was a bar of hand soap. I instantly loved the idea! Later that night I ordered the supplies and began teaching myself how to make soap... and so began my journey!
